This was taken a kilometre or so from where I was bogged last year (for those that remember). It was early afternoon and I was looking for other views of the Glasshouse Mountains. Two pelicans were resting on top of a sand bar with the GHM behind them. One flew off and this one posed. I worked myself in close trying to create the image I wanted. it didn't work.

Wayne, the face on this guy looks like a cartoon. Though lighting here. Like it with the Mountains in the BG.

Hi Wayne. The environmental aspects make this very unique! It's slightly unfortunate that the Pelican's head and horizon merge and the light looks pretty harsh but I do like the unusual composition.

Since you mentioned it... What was the image you envisioned?

Laura I was aiming for a better image of the GHM. Seeing the pelican I thought it might make a good foreground with the mountains standing out more in the BG. I focused my attention too much on the pelican and not the BG. I didn't know if it was going to fly off like it's mate. The major mistake was leaving the tripod in the car.

The depth of field is great. The mountains in the background give this a nice third dimension. Excellent shot!!

Very nice bird and environment. Loght is a bit harsh and it appears that the flash really didn't brighten the shadows on the Pelican.

Beautiful Pelican -- would like a little fill to complement the side lighting.

What is bogged?

:D Brian bogged is stuck, unable to move. Last year I was out testing my new waders and sank up to my waist in mud. I had my hands full with camera amd tripod. Fortunately a nearby resident saw what happened and extracted me with an old ironing board. I laugh now but it was a dangerous situation.
