This was taken the same day as the Eastern Phoebe, but later in the day. Maybe its the film I am using or maybe its my inexperience with Photoshop but there seems to be a bit of grain and a bit soft (the slide is tack sharp. Pls let me know what you think.

EOS 3, 500F/4IS, TCII2X, 550EX at -1 (with BB), I don't recall the exposure info.

You really have captured the subtle beauty of the fall Yellow-rump. Nice setting, BG and perch.

I'm seeing the heavy grain and the eye is a little soft. What film and scanner are you using?

This is really nice. I am also seeing the grain. I'll bet the slide is killer. :D

Warblers are cool little birds, and I think this is a nice shot of one.

Films used was Velvia 100 pushed 1 stop and scanned it with Canoscan FS2720U. Having scanned a number of images with this films and a few with Kodak E100GX, I hav noticed that grain is a bigger problem with the new Vevia. As for the scanner, I will most likly upgrade to a Nikon Coolscan at some point since I not thrilled with the quality of some scans.

Velvia F pushed 1 stop shows a little grain, but not much. Not as smooth as Provia F pushed 1 stop. That said, I shoot a lot of Velvia F at 200, that is not the main issue.

I am not familiar with the scanner so can't comment on that.

Is this a substantial crop? That is the only other thing I can think of.

This is a gorgeous shot. I, as others see the grain and some softness. However, I wouldn't worry since the slide is sharp. I don't know anything about scanning, but I'd say that you just need a few tweaks to make it look as good as the slide.
