California Brown Pelican, Huntington Beach, CA

This seemed appropriate for the Motif and also appropriate because we are headed west in the morning!

It was taken two years ago under a dark bridge near Bolsa. This is a vertical (square-ish) crop from the original horizontal to emphasize the head and pouch. I intentionally made the background black in-camera by using flash as main light.

Comments welcomed!

EOS 1V, EF 600/4 IS, 1.4TC, Velvia and flash as main light.

Great shot. I like how its beak is just barely breaking the water.

It's sharp with plenty of detail but I really like the colors.

This is beautiful as both a natural history and a graphic image. The lines, form and color are awesome!!

Excellent shot showing that bright red pouch. Was it full of fish or just drooping from being full of water? Looks like he's taking some groceries back home. :)
