Another shot from our recent visit to the Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust Reserve on the West coast. This is a close up of the Merganser I posted a while back.

WOW, how do you get so close? You must divulge your secret! The whites are good, the head detail is great and for me the eye is just right. Very pleasing image.

Gorgeous as always. I love the pose and detail in the white. I'm at school on a laptop so take this with a grain of salt but......is there some grain or noise in this..in the dark BG? I've not noticed it before in any of your images and am surprised but then it could be the laptop...or my eyes.

Beautiful close-up. Excellent exposure. I'm seeing the grain too.

Carol, I downloaded your image and enlarged it to 200% and actually the small bit of graininess in the BG seems to be from a bit of aggressive sharpening and all you have to do is increase your threshold setting with the USM.

This is very nice - I really like the bird and the light. A bit more of a head turn would have thrown more light on the forward part of his head.

Carol,

This is an excellent shot with nice light. You did a great job with the exposure. I like the green that you captured in the head.

This is beautiful, Carol! I especially love the curved bill and texture of the head feathers.
