To complete my latest series on BFS here is the last theme shot. Taken on the same day as the previous two under a cloudy sky. Originally horizontal cropped into vertical for web presentation ...

Now that's a spoonbill up close. Their bills are really fascinating and you have wonderful detail. Those drops of water are just perfect. There is enough light to give the eye some life. I also now understand why you don't use flash in these situations. I like this one best.

Wow! This is good. I've never seen a frontal portrait of any spoonbill. The frozen water droplets send it over the top.

Lovely series for these difficult circumstanses.

Any chance I see them at the end of May?

The lower mandible looks so much like a spoon, I feel like I should go to the kitchen. Great Shot.

Peter,

There are about 260 BFS wintering here in Hong Kong yearly. They normally start to arrive in mid October from the North-eastern part of China and Korea. They stay until around end April. But if last year's record is anything to go by, you may see an odd few around May too! I think they were younger birds and would want to store up as much 'fuel' as they can before making the long return journey ...
