Are you sure this is a Mallard? Female Mallards usually don't have an all yellow bill like that and males don't have plumage like that this time of year. It's probably a male American Black Duck as the plumage and all yellow bill with black nail is consistent with that - and a very nice shot too.

Cool shot as usual....

My grandfather called these black mallards, but I think that EJ has it right on this one....

Jim, it is the blue sky reflected in the shaded brown water.
E.J., I am sure you are correct, as both were present in the pond.

Best,

Chas

Whatever it is I like it, esp the main splash heading diagonally up left.

I love the water and action in this one. Finding any birds this time of year with gloomy winter weather has to be fun!!

Chas,

Nice action shot. I like how the blue water circles the duck. That sure is alot of flying water.

Great action shot! I like the contrast between the greyish and blue water a lot, but I'd probably turn the saturation down a little.

cheers, Oliver

Wonderful action and a killer image. I too think that this is an American Blackduck. I love how you stopped the water droplets in mid-air. Excellent work.
