Nothing special or remarkable in any way here, just a full-frame shot of a roadrunner. There's enough sharpness and detail in the scan to allow significant cropping. How would you crop it?

Bosque, early December.
Thanks,
Peter

Thats a good one...and of course subjective as any question could be... :-) I would try a panorama from just above the shoulder to a bit above the head...sort of centering the head....

Cheers,

Peter, it looks like it has a magenta cast to it. Love the OOF BG.

Peter, when doing head-shots like this I generally try and tuck the eye up in a corner and leave the head/neck coming out of a lowe corner, leaving room on the opposite side. You could get away with cropping even more off the right and top.

Nice shot and not easy to catch these guys. I do wish the bird was facing you more, but nice as is.

Jeff, Neat idea. I like Greg's thoughts on it too. It's fun to make multiple & drastically different photos from the same slide. Thanks Jeff & Greg! And Alan too - I didn't notice the color cast, but I'll compare it to the slide.

Here's my take FWIW. Since the bird is horizontal I'd go for a horizontal crop to follow along those lines. I'd also probably flip the bird since we tend to scan from left to right.

Greg has it about right for my taste. I also wish it was looking more towards the camera. Good colors showing as Tony mentioned.

I like Greg's first crop - don't get why you would turn it around - birds go both ways and half the world reads right to left. The image has a magenta/red color cast but is nice and sharp.

I like Harvey's post -- wouldn't flip it but the vert crop works for me.

Larsen, I agree with Brian, vertical crop. I've forever adored the red, white and blue behind the eye ... you sure nailed the beauty!!! 8) :D

Greg's crop is what I had in mind. I wish he were looking a little more toward the camera.

This is a great shot no matter how you crop it. I like what Greg has done with it but I also think a vertical would be just fine. Wonderful detail of this guy.

Hi Peter. I'm with the group that likes Greg's suggested crop. This is quite nice as is but I do see a slight reddish cast.
