Subject: Great Egret Casmerodius alba
Location: Nam Chung
Date: Dec-26-2003
EOS 10D, EF300mm f/2.8 L USM, EF 2x II TC, 1/1600, EV-1, ISO200, Sidekick, C1LE, FocalBlade, no crop

Last time it was too small and I guess this time it is too cramped! :x

Griffin, it looks to me like you made the best of your situation. I think the time of day is what may be the problem here. Feather detail is very nice.

Griffen,

The clipped wing and feet do take away to some degree. The light is somewhat harsh and the bird is a little soft. Maybe the point of focus caught the birds right wing, which is lovely. Keep plugging away. I think you would have nailed this without the 2X.

The right wing is perfectly exposed..a tough thing with the light that you had.... Having both the feet and the wing tip clipped is one too many gotchas for me....

Too bad you didn't have the 1.4x istead of the 2x on. Exposure is good given the difficult lighting.

Agree with E.J, a 1.4 maybe and your in the park. I hate it when this happens and it does ALL the time! :D

I can feel the pain, George. A friend and I were shooting the flying egrets when this one got really, really close. Others are just either too small (cropping required) or it is too far off the frame. There are always times when a zoom lens gets handy. :wink:
