Gadwall (Anas strepera)

Here is a chance shot I got of the male of a pair of Gadwall that were hiding in a small creek along Town Lake in Austin. This is the only one that gave me the reflections I was wanting, with the exception of the reflection of the white bridge pillar in the left corner. My only decent Gadwall shot to date. Thanks for looking.

He's a handsome devil, Wayne, and you've done him proud!!! I'm especially enamored with his wing patches; excellent details and very sharp indeed!!! 8) 8)

Wayne, a wonderful photo. I do wish the white reflection was not there.

Wayne,

Beautiful looking gadwall. Great light and head turn. With some PS work the white could be cloned out for a neat print.

Glad to see you posting here. This is a very nice Gadwall. I think they're hard to get right both shooting and with PS.....you did a fine job with both. He has wonderful colors and detail. It would take some work but you could clone out the white.

Excellent habitat shot. The white is only a minor distraction.

When I first looked, I never noticed the white reflection. The overall image is very nice. A keeper in my book!

Wayne,

This is a beautiful photograph. The colors in the wing make this a special image.

Beautiful colors and light on him. I hope to get something this good this winter with a Gadwall. I haven't had good luck with them.

Very nice, especially the wings colors. The white doesn't bother me at all--wouldn't have guessed the source was manmade. Shooting just a fraction later would have made this even better, putting the bird's head in the clear, between the stems of the emergent vegetation in the background.

A point I should have seen in the field. One more lesson learned. Thanks, Cliff.
