Bosque del Apache
After shooting the crane flyout on the morning of Dec. 5th, we found another Roadrunner along the road that bisects the refuge. It was sunning itself in the early morning and quite tame indeed. At least half a dozen photographers within 30-40 ft. of it and it was unaffected. A little busy around the bird but I was excited to see and record this behavior. Full frame. Took this while kneeling on the ground in the road.

Very nice capture. A slightly lower angle would have been nice if possible but as is this is still very good.

Love the way he has exposed his dark under patch, cold morning call for a little exposure even if not properly dressed and photogs all around to capture the moment, I like it!!! Congrats!! 8)

The pose and posture makes up for the harsh lighting. Nice shot.

Actually, they open the outer feathers on their backs to expose the black downy underfeathers to the sunlight to warm themselves.

This is an excellent capture of that behavior. :D
