This one is about the wine color. I don't think I have ever used a "waist up" shot before, certainly not standard for birds.

Incredible detail and colors, I just can't stop looking at it, the shadows and crimson highlites are done to perfection, BG could not be better,what a handsome bird !!!
Yet the composition leaves me wanting for more and then for less, the impasse makes me nervous, I dare not with it's beauty play!!! 8)

The colors and detail are excellent. I wouldn't have thought about a waist up shot.....it sure works here. Great job!

:D Lovely shot Ken. My ignorance, but tell me why is it not standard? I have seen many images on this forum shot as portraits.

I have many shots of House Finches, of a flock visiting my feeder. I cropped the feeder simply because there were too many birds in the image.
