One of the last shots of the last bird on a clear morning, made not long before 11 a.m., well after I would have quit on my own. Afterwards, the bird landed 100 feet up in a big tree, and refused to come down, despite much begging from the falconer. By the time we'd packed up our gear, however, he'd changed his mind and come down for a snack. The bird was flown free, no radio gear, just a single leg band, which I've cloned out. (Wings were down, the band hidden, in the frame before this one, which is the one I would submit.) In South Texas, Harris's Hawks hunt in packs for quail and other prey, making them unpopular with at least one quail lover of my acquaintance, who rates them "lower than Caracara." Cropped all around, this is 76% of the full, out-of-the-mount frame. Boulder County, CO, EOS-3, 300 f4L IS, handheld, 1/1500, f5.6 (ambient), Provia at 200 and pushed one stop.

Excellent Image, trained bird or not, to me it makes no difference, an image well taken should speak for itself and nothing else!! Congrats!!!

This makes a very dramatic image against the background. Really nice catchlight in that tack sharp eye. Those talons look pretty sharp too.

This guy is really moving. As Alex said....it doesn't matter whether this is a trained bird or not....you have to make the shot. Excellent image. The eye is so sharp that it really draws your attention. Wonderful detail and perfect BG.

This shot really captures the essence of this powerful raptor. I love the effect of the colorful semi oof grasses in the background.
