As a rule, I don't really like flash-as-main shots. They just don't look natural to me. But with night shots of owls you don't have much choice, and, man oh man do you get sharp results.
This is Elvis, my "yard Barred" who has not, as I had orginally thought, left the building. He now visits about once a week.

Canon 1D, 500, ISO 400, 1/320 @ f/ 5.6, 550 w/BB, minus .33
Removed redeye, cloned out a few background twigs

wow, elvis is alive and well, very nice image. hove you tried a timed exposure-maybe elvis would be still for the duration
