Snowy Egret - Huntington Beach, California, USA
EOS 10D, 600mm, 1.4x, 1/500, f/8, ISO 200

I had pretty much stopped even pointing the camera at Snowy Egrets well over a year ago after having thousands of images and thinking I had seen just about everything this bird has to offer. Today while shooting some shorebirds, this Snowy decided to do some fishing in front of me. I took this shot as he turned away from me and went into the water because I thought it was really cool that you can see both of his eyes from the underside. This shows clearly why an Egret can appear to be looking straight ahead and then get a fish in one swift motion since they can see straight down while their head is level.

I love the reflection and the colors, but especially what you pointed out - that you can see the bird's eyes from the underside. Crazy stuff!

The inside of the bird and reflection almost make a heart. Good for a Valentines card.
A very different perspective and I like it a lot. Good creativity to capture this.

I think you have proved that there is always a different shot - if you have the vision to see it

A bunch of nice elements adding up to a spectacular photo. I'd say you got another unique shot of a snowy. Saying there are no more unique shots of anything is like saying everything that can be invented already was. (The commissioner of the US patent office said that in 1899!)

A very cool shot. I like how we're viewing from underneath it's head and can still see it's eyes. Very nice.

Hey E.J.,

This is very cool. It's almost a graphic art kind of thing, just a few lines that create interesting shapes. I bet it would make a wonderful B&W image too.

Cheers

Wonderful shot! And some people ask why we love to photograph birds. Thanks for sharing.
