White Cheeked Pintail (status unknown)

I found this morsel one morning while visiting Metro Zoo-Miami, Sitting pretty at the water's edge in the Gibbon Island, for a second I though he was a captive, but no rings are present to suggest that, and later I saw him fly to the larger pool with ease, Used to be very common in the Bahama Islands, Greater Antilles , The Virgin Islands and the Northern Lesser Antilles, It's population has greatly decreased to alarming levels, at present the are mostly found in Cuba, The Bahamas and the Virgin Islands; These birds is not accepted on bird counts since it could be an escapee, the fact that no marking rings are present tends to contradict that premise.
He was being shaded when found by the trunk of a Royal Palm and would not move, I waited for about 20 minutes before the sun kissed his feathers!! A beautiful bird he is, and I also wish for a lower angle but this was impossible!!

We love these too Alex! They are called Bahama Pintails over here and are such smart little birds. Very nice shot. 8) :)

I leave it to you to find the dashing duck dudes and do them justice with your talent. A gorgeous duck with a perfect spotlight on him....your patience is admirable. And with my favorite magic eye.

I wish you all the health and good fortune for 2004.

Alex,

This is a gorgeous subject and you have handled it as well as anyone could ask for.

The spotlit head and chest really sends this over the top.

Happy new year to you, too.
