Been wanting to capture this wonderful little bird, a male Daurian Redstart, for a while now. The shot was taken yesterday at a nature reserve here in Hong Kong. I got lucky and was thrilled to spot him after just under an hour's wait ...

EOS-10D, EF600/4 + EF1.4x
Evaluative @ -1/3, ISO 200

Happy New Year to ALL!  :P

A wonderful shot of an interesting bird. I especially like the lighting and the sharpness from head to tail. An excellent job with this one!

Happy New Year!!!

Lovely shot! I would like to know just how you managed to get the bird to use a colour coordinated perch??!!!

Given the strong backlighting the exposure is very well done. Nice image.

Very nice photo KK. This guy is a beauty. Good detail in the blacks. You hit the exposure right on here although I would wish not to have the backlighting on the head so the whole bird was evenly lit. On the other hand, the backlighting here adds a little bit of drama I think. As is, this is very nice.

Nice picture of a nice looking bird. Position is optimal to show many colors of him. My long term plan is to visit Hong Kong someday!

KK - Beautiful lighting, one of your best. I failed to photograph this bird in Japan.

Beautiful. Perhaps 1/3 less ambient to tone the highlights coming from behind the tree along with a tiny bit of fill (to counter) would take it over the top.
