First of all, thank you for selecting my merlin image as image of the week. It could not have happened without all the great tutoring from this forum.

This is another post from another good day on the grasslands. Usually the larks do not sit very still for long but occassionally a good one pops up. The light this time of year is good almost all day.

Canon 1D, 500 F4 IS, 2xll, F13, 1/500 sec, ISO 200, from car window mount.

Good size in the frame. The vegetation, particularly in front of the bird, is distracting but still better than anything I have on these guys.

I love this; easily the best I've seen of this species in this plumage. In fact, many of us have never seen this species in this plumage in the first place.

Nice shot Rob, I agree the front stalks are a bit distracting but that's where it was and the exposure on him is superb. 8)

Excellent shot and I especially love the colors. Wonderful detail as well. Of course I'd prefer that the FG stalks weren't there....but then I'd like to get a merlin on fence post, too. Can't have everything so I'd definitely take this one in a heartbeat!!!

I like it -- vegetation is busy but this works for the environment this photo intends.

Nice habitat image. The FG is a little distracting but still a nice shot.

Other than the couple of oof foreground elements I think this is very nice. I quite like the soft tones and texture of the snow.
