Just back from florida with some 7G+ of images to go through. Seeing as it is late and I haven't even finished downloading them all from my digital wallet thingie, i'm posting one from my first day in Florida at Merrit Island NWR. This killdeer was preening in the water close to shore. He then started scratching (I guess he had an itch!) and I caught him in a pre-scratch leg lift. I hope you like it.

Chris,

I really like the lifted leg pose. As a slight improvement I would try a lower angle and some fill flash.

Agree a lower angle would help this a lot

Neat action, though I'd like him turned toward you a little.

Good action, Chris. Low angles are hard to come by at Merritt Island.

A lower angle here would have meant climbing over rocks and scaring this guy off, as well as entering water just a few hundred feet away from an 8-9 foot Alligator. So I did would I could with a marginal angle :)

Pose is hilarious. Like some others, I wish for a lower angle. When you can't get down (or up), an alternative is to back up and go longer, e.g. add 1.4 TC, to reduce the angle. (A tip from Greg.) Don't know whether that would would here though.

Oh, good, you're posting stuff from your Florida visit! Great behavorial shot! The only room for improvement I can see is a lower angle (which isn't always possible). Looking forward to more photos from the trip!

Yeeouch. That looks painful. Thanks for postings this since the leg position alone makes this an interesting photo.

More objectively, I'm not wild about the steep shooting angle and the lack of a catchlight in the eye.

I have to agree with needing a lower angle even if that location makes that tough. Cool pose though. 8)

Chris,
This guy almost looks double-jointed. A lower angle would have helped, but still pretty nice.
