Back/Red-legged Kittiwake - Saint Paul Island, The Pribilofs, Alaska
EOS 10D, 500, 2x, 1/640, f/11, ISO 200

While wading in the Salt Lagoon on Saint Paul Island photographing Rock Sandpipers, a large flock of Kittiwakes were mulling around some distance from my shooting position so I popped on the 2x and manually focused and found this scene, a lone Red-legged Kittiwake in a sea of Black-legged Kittiwakes. Note the shorter bill and darker plumage of the Red-legged Kittiwake in addition to the difference in leg color.

Great shot. I think this would qualify for this week's motif. :D

Wonderful shot EJ, I love the layered colours in the BG and the composition with the birds is superb. 8)

Really nice semi-pano! What a great diagnostic shot for learning how to distinguish the two species.

Nice shot.....and very interesting to have the Red-legged among the others. Great comparison shot. I like the pano for this as well as the BG.

EJ,

Excellent shot. The red-legged makes a great focal point. I like the background colors.

I think this is great. I really like the way you placed the Red-legged Kittiwake close to the center of the frame and the rich colors of the background.
