Whip-poor-will female brooding two almost fledged chicks (the second chick is under the adult's left wing). I found this bird a few years ago in a CT woodland. I always knew that adult nightjars were well camouflaged, but until I experienced this I had no idea that the chicks would blend into the forest floor to the point where they would be almost invisible against the leaf litter.

I think this is simply amazing. This displays the camouflage extremely well and yet the birds are still completely obvious due to the eye contact. Just a wonderful shot.

Paul,

Wonderful shot !

Did you try any from a higher vantage point and a shorter lens?
