(Sandhill Crane) Bosque de Apache, New Mexico

This is intended to be about a month long series of images from my two weeks at Bosque. My intent is to make the images flow as though they all occurred during a single day. Of course, they occurred during the two weeks I was there. :)

This is the twelfth post of the series. I thought I'd post something different. A Sandhill Crane in flight.

Although this was taken early in the morning, the color of the light had settled down a bit at this point after sunrise. I got this from the area by the farm deck. Again, this area isn't as consistent as the crane pool but this frame, and the one immediately following it are simply stunning in my opinion. I liked the expression on its face in this one better, so I decided this was the one to show.

With few clouds, between 7:15 and 9:00 are very consistent with light with only the angle of the sun changing. Most of my best flight images were taken between these times and in the late afternoon. I'll probably post a week or two of images from the morning flight times unless feedback is weak. I'll also try to only post things I was very happy with to try and get the series moving along properly again.

Tripod/Wimberly mounted Nikon D2H, 600mm AFS, ISO 200, Aperture Priority, 1/1600 @ F4. Cropped about 10%, from the top and left.

Tony,

The neat open bill makes this for me. If printing, I'd consider adding some space in front.

Nice one, especially the gape. DOF on the near wing is amazing for f4. On my screen, looks like a third of a half stop less exposure would be better, but fine as is.
