Magellanic Snipe
Sea Lion Island, Falkland Islands

I have never been able to get close enough to a snipe at home to get a decent shot. Usually I dont even see the bird until it is flying away. I found several snipes on Sea Lion Island and this was the least camoflauged and I was able to get close enough for this portrait by belly crawling slowly toward the bird. One of the great things about photographing in the Falklands is the lack of fear of humans by most species, including the lbbs (little bitty birds).

Cheryl,

This is a great photo for the Motif. Very nice detail and he does seem hidden by the habitat. Well done!!

Looks very much like our Wilson's Snipe and lives like them too from this picture. Well done.

Very nice intimate shot, Cheryl!
I like the feeling of being in the snipe's habitat.
