White-tailed Ptarmigan Lagopus leucurus

This is another White-tailed Ptarmigan shot that was taken last January on Guanella Pass. I wish I would have gotten a lower shooting angle on this one but I still thought it fit this week's Motif Theme.

Conditions: Thin overcast and snowing.
Nikon F5, 300/4 AF-S, TC20EII, tripod and ballhead
Sensia 100, Aperture Priority @ f8, Matrix meter @ +1 2/3
Full frame

All comments and critiques are welcome. Thanks for looking. :)

Nice clean shot Bill. The exposure is perfect. I like the little twigs coming up through the snow as it breaks it up a bit. great photo.

Hey Bill,

Nice one. I do think maybe trying to nestle the bird a bit more into the lower corner might strengthen it a bit, fitting the camouflage/hidden idea well.

How do you find the 2x TC with that lens? I've only tried it with my Kenko 2x, and haven't been overly impressed .. are your results with the Nikon TC what you need?

Cheers

Carl

Nice detail in both the feathers and snow. A little crop off the bottom might be nice.

Excellent. You do realize that if you had a butt shot, you would have had a hard time convincing me that there was a bird present.

Sweet! I agree that a lower angle would have been nice but this is just fine as is. Great job with the exposure.

The 300/4 AF-S with the TC20E II are [were] an excellent combination. I got great results when there was enough light to get 1/640 or faster SS. After I got the Canon 600mm lens I sold that lens and the TCs for it to buy Sheri a 100-400 Canon lens.

Thanks for looking and for your comment. :)

This has been a great week for unique posts. I love this one. Even with all the whiteness the bird stands out against the snow nicely. A nice big print of this would look fantastic in my all white bedroom!
