Canvasback - Phoenix, Arizona, USA
EOS 10D, 300mm, 1.4x, 1/200, f/7.1, Flash @ -1 1/3, ISO 200

One of my favorite wintering ducks in the Phoenix area is the Canvasback and this year's visitors of this species seem very tame compared to previous years allowing very close range shooting. This was the case with this female Canvasback.

Very nice E.J. -- so if I zoom in on that water drop should I see your reflection. :D

Nice shot E.J. I yearn for the sharpness of that lens! I do think I can see your hat too. ;) I like the drop of water.

EJ,

A real beaut. If I keep looking long enough at this image, I expect the drop will fall from her beak.

Excellent shot, EJ. You are lucky to have ducks....and cooperative ducks at that. Presently with our weather I'm duckless. I may need to schedule a field trip to Arizona.

She's such a beauty. I absolutly love these ducks and only wish they were so tame around these parts! This is beautiful. :)

EJ, everything about it is very nice. For us novices, why did you use - 1 1/3 and not -2/3 fill on this mostly dark subject? Thanks.

Bob

Because its really not mostly dark - the flanks are actually very light in color and you don't want to risk blowing those out. You also don't want to add to any billshine or enhance water droplets on the bird too much.
