What a pretty guy/gal this is -- whites are a touch over.

Nice shot Jimmy. A lower angle may have been better, but also may not have been possible. (Brain, you'll find this to be a struggle at Barnegat too). As for the whites you pretty much have to kiss them goodbye anytime after 30 minutes post-sunrise in order to get any kind of detail in the dark areas of the face and neck. There is little detail to any of the whites on this bird to begin with, and none in some areas.

Looks good to me Jimmy.

Very nice shot of this lovely duck. Hopefully the nares area will heal up. :)

Love the frozen wave in front of the bird. Great shot.

Nice shot, Jimmy. I'd certainly love to see one. Around here they are a truly rare event....and usually a mile away. Interesting about the defective bill....did it look like it had been damaged or perhaps hatched that way?

I think you absolutely made the right choice on exposure here. You can either have the whites or the grays but not both due to the extreme range. Since there is very little detail in a Harlequin's whites to begin with, holding the greys is definitely the right call. Well done.
