After a recent reference to bald eagles here as being 'like tame pet parrots', I thought I'd post this one.

Techs: Nikon camera, lens, film

Cheers

We had an Amazon Parrot that would open its beak at us like this. When we would hold a finger out to him, he would put his head down and let us scratch the back of his neck. :D

Great shot of this guy!!

Beautiful detail. The composition, exposure and BG are right on the money.

Not anything I could think of to improve this one.

Bet he wouldn't be too interested in having his neck scratched. :D

The detail on this is incredible and I find the eye almost haunting. Very nice!

I can almost hear it: “Polly want a salmon”.

Great shot Carl, I like the fact you have a little light in the mouth, not sure if that is from a little fill flash, or sun reflecting off the snow.

Hey folks,

Ron, I don't believe I used flash here .. just had some fortune with nice soft light in the morning.

Jill, no, this bird is wild, though very habituated to people.

Greg, sorry man, I honestly don't recall what lens I was using for this particular shot. It was either my 300mm f4, my 500mm f4, or my friend's 600mm, or any of the above lenses with a 1.4 TC. I'm guessing the 500 or 600. I can tell you this though .. I shot over half a roll of film on this bird, and as the roll ended, he stopped screaming, and flew off. I turned to help a buddy with something, and got distracted. I turned back to my camera, opened the back of my camera to change film, and saw it hadn't yet rewound. I closed it up, rewound it, and hoped for the best. I managed to salvage about 6 frames out of probably 20! If anyone ever wants a really funky looking image of an eagle screaming, with all kinds of reds, yellows and oranges across the frame, let me know. :D

Cheers
