(Sandhill Crane) Bosque de Apache, New Mexico

This is intended to be about a month long series of images from my two weeks at Bosque. My intent is to make the images flow as though they all occurred during a single day. Of course, they occurred during the two weeks I was there. :)

This is the ninth in the series. I just posted number 8 over in the Landscape gallery.

This was one of the first images taken with my new D2H. It was taken as the sun started to illuminate the birds over the crane pool. There were still a few settings I had wrong at this point but I'm happy with the way the camera reacted under pressure. Of course, what was wrong with the settings could easily be fixed using the Nikon Capture Editor.

One of the best places to shoot in morning sunlight is at the crane pool. Good light and an abundance of subjects makes for a busy and memorable morning. I did try other locations for the sunrise while I was there but if you really want to be insured that there will be subjects to shoot, this is the place to be.

Tripod/Wimberly mounted Nikon D2H, 600mm AFS, TC-14EII ISO 200, Aperture Priority, EV -0.3, 1/1000 @ F5.6, SB-80DX, BB, FP. Cropped less than 15% mostly from the bottom and right.

Tony, Wonderful Midas light on this shot, and if you shoot in raw mode many parameters can be edited/changed in Capture, a no brainer!!!
Love the wing spread and very nice detail!!!
Congrats!! 8)

Fine shot. In good light like this, I might shoot 14,000 frames. :) (Nah, that's 390 rolls, and I don't think I've ever done more than 150 at Bosque in a three-week period.)

As a flight shot....it is great. Add the color you have here and it's outstanding. The light was certainly with you on this one.
