Rock Sandpiper - Saint Paul Island, The Pribilofs, Alaska
EOS 10D, 500mm, 1.4x, 1/1000, f/8, ISO 200

I was off a ways from the others in the salt lagoon on Saint Paul Island wading in ankle deep water with NEOS overshoes and was photographing this Rock Sandpiper. He was not bothered by me in the least and eventually walked right under my tripod with me at the camera. This was the last shot I got before the photos started becoming partial bird shots.

These guys are so tame it is not to be believed! This is a great shot of one and worth getting a little damp for. ;)

Could not be any better!! 8) 8) 8)
They say the higher you go latitude wise, the tamer the birds get, with no bipedal predators around, you don't ring any alarm bells !!
During my visit to Kodiak Island given a few more days with the Oystercatchers, I am pretty confident that I could have sat in the middle of the whole group and would have been accepted as their personal photog!!!

:)

Just beautiful. I especially like the little pose and the way the Sandpiper seems to be smiling!
