This photo was taken at barkley dam in SW kentucky. I used a Canon EOS 10D w/ 75-300 IS at 60/5.6. He let me get within a few feet which was great!! Comments welcome! If anyone can give me pointers on how to get decent resolution without breaking the posting guideline limits I would appreciate it. Thanks!

Welcome Brandon! I fixed your post to show the image. You had the image address in the title line, so I also gave you a title. :)

Nice composition and exposure for the back-lighting. A little flash would have helped brighten this one up a bit.

As for resolution just set the pixel dimensions and save the image as a jpeg at under 120K. Resolution should not be a factor, just the pixel dimension. What program are you using to edit your images?

Greg,
Thanks for getting me up there! I'm using photoshop elements 2 right now. I resized the image to get it under 120k, but it looked very blurry. I was hoping there was a way to make it clear while still being big enough to see.

Brandon, after resizing there is a need for some sharpening. Try using the unsharp mask filter several times at a setting of 100% amount /.02 radius and 0 Threshold.

Brandon,

The backlighting is nice. I agree that a little fill flash would have helped make the bird pop. A little USM will work wonders on this.

Welcome to NatureScapes.net!! NatureScapes is an excellent source of information. :D

A nice first post. I agree with a little fill flash and a shot of USM. You did well to get this close....in Kentucky.
