I posted one image from this series a while back. I was the only one that ventured up to the ridge that morning in the snow and this was the only bird that I got. (Not complaining :D ) By the time the snow stopped and the other guys got up there all they could do was look at the perch with the snow knocked off to realize what they had missed! We didn't take another shot for almost a week! The background is a distant ridge with a few lingering aspens on it.

EOS 1V, 300 2.8, 1.4X handheld on Provia pushed one stop.

I remember that other shot, and I won't forget this one either. I like these darsal views with the head turned back. The back, wings, and upper surface of the tail are always loaded with interest, and the turned head creates a feeling of action.
What a husky bird. Looks like one of those offensive linemen with a body too big for its head.

Gorgeous color in the background, wonderful snow and bird. The eye looks slightly softer than the tail, but yellow eyes can do that.

Jim,

Magnificent. A painter could not have conceived of this image as well as you've captured it. Fantastic light.

AJ posted most of my thoughts, especially the linebacker part!

Perfectly composed and I love the snow flakes.

Your raptor shots are top of the line. I like each one better than the last. You certainly go the extra mile (or 100 miles) to get your images and it really pays off. Excellent.

Jim -

Nice earthy color combo. Another beauty!
I like the tail spread and the feather detail on the back.
