Just trying out my new Christmas present and here we go again on a new learning curve! I love the cry of these birds when they give their piercing call and they are so smart in their black and white plumage.

All comments and critiques always welcome and appreciated and thanks for looking.

Nice habitat and the bird is well balanced in the frame. Could use maybe 1/3 less EV and a slight turn of the head towards the camera would be nice. Welcome to the digital world.

Excellent shot, Carol. The pose and inclusion of habitat really work here. The whites are a little hot but not real bad.

Congratulations on the new Christmas present. It looks like you are off to a fine start with it. :)

Excellent shot - a little more of a head turn to the camera would take this one over the top.

Very nice. You might have been better off shooting this wide open or maybe at 5.6. It would help separate the bird from the background. Might also be tempted to crop off the strip of brown at the bottom.

Well done, Carol. The look-away appeals to me, especially because of the excellent catchlight.

Very nice, Carol. You chose just about the toughest subject you could to try out digital exposures, and you did great here holding detail in both the blacks and whites. Enjoy the new toy!

Nice shot Carol. Would have liked his head turned towards the camera more but a sweet image as is.

I do like the over the shoulder look that this one has....with a wonderful catchlight. Wow....what a Christmas present...and early, too. You're going to have a lot of fun with this toy.

Thanks everyone for your kind comments and helpful suggestions, they are always much appreciated - and very much a part of my learning curve! :)

The new camera is already very enjoyable, excellent value - and I can't wait to get out there again (English Winter weather permitting!)
