Another bird stopping on its way to a long-established feeder that sits under this large, old Ponderosa Pine. As a perch, I'd much prefer a spruce or hemlock (anything with shorter needles). This was not a place I saw chickadees land before or after this series of maybe eight frames in one and a half seconds, so it was a grab shot--my only decent MOCH shot of the trip. Estes Park, CO, EOS-3, 600 IS, 25mm extension, 1.4x II, f8, evaluative -1/3 or -2/3, Provia F at 200 and pushed one stop.

Cliff, the long needles add much charm to this shot. The negative space on the right could not be better. You've also illustrated how a centered bird can work well, given the correct correct supporting elements.

I, too love the long needles and the inclusion of the pine cone. I hadn't even noticed that the bird was centered until Sandy pointed it out....pretty clever compositon. An excellent grab shot as well.

I like the peek-a-boo look at this chickadee. The pine needle doesn't obscure any part of its face so it isn't a problem to me.

Excellent shot!!

Cliff,

Very nice shot. I like how the bird is peaking between the two needles. I also like what the pine cone adds to the image.

Cliff -

Nice shot of a bird that I haven't seen posted much.
Chickadees and pine needles go together well, so I like the environmental aspect of the composition.
