Egyptian Goose (Alopochen aegyptiacus)
Crandon Park, Key Biscayne, FL, on 5 Jul 2003

Several Egyptian Geese roam freely through Crandon Park. Here’s a front view of this lovely creature, with reflections on the water and on the bird’s breast.

Thanks for looking. Comments, critiques, and reposts are welcome.

Great detail. One could see the roots in the BG as slightly distracting, but this isn't a big deal for me since the reflections are carried through the water.

What wonderful plumage.

Nice shot Sandy. Tack sharp as usual.

Is it me or is he sitting high on the water :)

I wanted to say, "It's you, Dave" but now that I look more closely, he does seem to have little of him submerged. Good observation.

A wonderful image that looks like a painting. The roots/branches are dark enough that they not only don't detract (as they so often do elsewhere, as at Venice Rookery, for example) but add interest. The little bit of greenery in the background, the water, and the soft light are all great.

Boy that bird sure is a "high floater"! I really like the reflections on the breast. Nice image Sandy.

Sandy,

Nice and sharp across the body, the dark BG works well here. The water reflections on the breast are something I find annoying in some images but are hard to avoid in the field. I suspect its standing on something.

Sandy,

Nice shot. The Goose is located well in the frame and the image is technically excellent.

I remember seeing them while I was there and this one is perfect. The BG adds such a nice touch as well. He sure must be filled with hot air to float this high. Great shot.

Sandy, I believe I've got it figured out. The Egyptian was indeed standing on a turtle's back. When his foot got nipped, Chip captured his image!!! Yours is a most serene image vs. Chip's frenzy !!! All the best, Jill

He must be "EMPTY"
Monique, I am packed and ready to go, I may not look like much but I am well behaved and can grow on you like a fungus, with no cure for it!!!
