While I was testing the possibilitys of the 500mm + 1.4 + extension tubes
on my balcony (first floor) this lovely, rare woodpecker came to make my day ! :D

(They are mostly on the ground searching for ants)

Shutter speed: 1/100 sec
Aperture: 5,0
Exposure mode: Av
ISO: 250
Lens: 500,0 mm +1.4+12mm ext.t.
AF mode: Manual Focus
Monique, I am packed and ready to go, I may not look like much but I am well behaved and can grow on you like a fungus, with no cure for it!!!

Very well done Monique. As I am sure you know this is a very shy and difficult bird to photograph. I often hear them, never seen one up close like this.

Of course it would be better from a low angle, but I would be delighted to have a shot like this.

What a cool bird. If you ever get another chance, lay down on the ground to take the shot - they are much more dramatic when photographing birds on mowed lawns.

A beautiful bird, Monique. Yes, a lower angle would made a big difference.

Really like the pose here - looks very intent on something...

I'm with EJ on the eye level - ground level lawn shots are much more dramatic (and easier on the apparel than lying in the mud - unless you have a dog...)

Monique,

Nice one of a bird I've not see. Love the color combination of the feathers.

What luck....to just look out and see a rare bird in the yard. Sure...a lower angle would be nice but then you take the shots when/where you can get them. A beautiful bird...and you got him in his habitat. The more that you shoot with your new toys....the more you will know of their capabilities.
