Across the street from my home there is a five acre park that is a haven for a remarkable number of birds. In spring-time there are usually 25+ pairs of nesting GBH and Great Egrets in the cypress tree tops, barred owls (I have seen 5 at one time), woodpeckers, warblers, wood ducks (I posted one last week) and numerous other birds. Many of these birds are remarkably tolerant of photographers. Last week, a pair of bald eagles that I have been seeing regularly for the last 2 months started working on a nest in a tall pine tree. To get this image this morning I set up my camera in a bedroom, opened a window, focused and pressed the shutter. :!:

D1x, 600 f4, 1.4 x, iso 200, 1/400, f9. USM, about 40% crop.

I hope to be able to post more images of this eagle family.

Sheesh! And I thought it was cool having an owl in my yard. You are sitting on a gold mine and this is a pretty nice nugget right here. It looks a little bit dark on my monitor, but other than that.......

Hi AJ,

There is a first time for everything. I actually like the square crop here!! Say it isn't so! The light is beautiful, it is a tad dark as previousley mentioned. I like how you framed the right edge with the trunk of the tree and used the nest to balance the placement of the bird in the frame.

I can see a BAEA nest from my kitchen window, but only in the winter when there are no leaves, and it is about 1/2 mile away!

Sweet AJ, I look forward to seeing more of your shots as the nesting cycle progresses!

Glad that you have such a wonderful opportunity. the shot is great, slightly dark as mentioned, but easily corrected, and you can just leave your camera set up and set a timer. Life can be so easy at times, then at other times,....................................

I have reworked this image to lighten it up. I think I need to learn how to calibrate my monitor. Hope this is better and thanks for all the constructive comments.

Great shot. If I had a bedroom with a view such as yours, I'm not sure if I would be able to leave for work.

Jerry, Fine image. You should come up with many potential great images of this pair. I was just kidding around when I suggested you put some scaffolding on your house. It certainly looks like you'll not need it.
