I believe my identification is correct altho I have been wrong (in this forum) in the past. Taken at Horicon Marsh, Wisconsin, in the spring.
Canon Eos 1V, Canon 400/2.8 on a beanbag thru the window of the RV. Can't recall if there was a 1.4TC on it or not and the techs were not recorded. No flash. Full frame as I recall. Sorry to be so vague on these details but it was a while ago, I did not take notes, and it was not the digital camera that preserves all of the data.
Any comments, revisions most welcome.

I like it. Although there are a few sticks which some may find dislike, they don't bother me at all. Nice pose and size in frame.

You nailed the ID. Nice shot, that pose is really cool.

The bird looks great Joseph. The BG is a little busy.

Excellent pose. The out of focus twigs running in front of the bird are a little distracting. Overall a very nice image. :)

Definitely a Black-crowned Night Heron! The bird is rendered extremely well although, as already mentioned, the BG is a bit busy. It's funny. Every time I see this species in Ohio the birds are extremely wary of approach. When I'm in SoCal they practically eat out of my hand. I would be thrilled to get a shot like this in Ohio. :)

Too bad about the twig. I really love the pose here - very dynamic, and it goes well with the plumage on this perky juvie.
