My quest on ducks continues ...

The number of Northern Pintail wintering here in Hong Kong is gradually building up. This shot of a male was taken couple of days ago at a nature reserve. He was about to sail away ... I like the way he looks back on me though ...

Hi KK,

I have very little on this species. Hopefully can add to the files this winter. The shooting angle is a bit steep but I love the head turn and the exposure is perfect. Is it possible to get lower at this location or are you restricted by fences?

Must be a young bird as the tail isn't nearly as long as they get.

Well Done!

Very nice photo. I tried to get some shots here in Hamilton Bay just west of Toronto. But cannot approach close enough, they are much too shy.

Thanks for your positive comment, Brian!
Unfortunately, that is as low as I can get. I was shooting from a hide. All wild ducks are so difficult to approach in the open in this part of the world ... :(

I agree with your observation that this may well be a young bird.

Psst, KK, try the "duck pond" ;) I have seen 3 or 4 of this kind today. I got one late today.

Almost forgot -- the photograph is very nice, I really like detailed feathers and "humid" texture of the bill.

Very nice image of a 2 year male. As these birds get older they get a much longer sprig and the white pin stripe up the neck gets much more pronounced!

Well done KK

These ducks are difficult to expose and compose properly. :?
You did very well with both.

A very nice shot. The only suggestion I would make is to use a lower shooting angle.

These are such beautiful ducks Other than the lower shooting angle already mentioned, I think this is really nice!

Nicely done image with good exposure and detail. You might consider cloning out the few branches frame right.
