Gadwall Anas strepera

Another duck image taken at Belmar Park last September.

10D, 600/4 IS, 1.4X, tripod
Eval @ -2/3, Av @ f8, SS 1/400, ISO 200
Cropped to 5X7 proportions

Very nice light, the green water, reflection and feather detail are excellent. Needs a bit of right rotation.

From a distance, it's easy to ignore a female Gadwall and think it's just another Black or Mallard. This is a duck you have to get close to if you want to reveal it's intricate plumage. And that's just what you have done here.

Nice shot. Love the preening action and the green water. If I had to wish for anything it might be for a little more of the eye, but very nice as is.

Bill, Terrific detail on the feather patterns!!! I'm thinking this is a male coming into breeding plumage. Gadwalls are often overlooked.

I really like the ruffled feathers in this one. The various colors and feather patterns are just wonderful as is the green water! :)
