Northern Cardinal Rio-Grande Valley, South Texas

D1X, 600/4.

I have just spent the last two days shooting many of the South Texas specialties, but I just can't resist the Cardinals down here. They are in great plumage and so red. I was pleased to get this one all relaxed with his crest up.

Loving digital.

This is really nice. Everything about it looks so relaxed and natural. You got the perfect angle on the face....turned toward the camera, but not so far that the bill gets lost.

Alan,

This is really excellent. I am glad you took to digital like a duck to water.

Another great image--great bird, great perch, great background, and great color. The man goes digital and adopts the Velvia palette!

Alan -

Perfectly composed and executed.

What do you think, so far, about the tonal range capability of the digital?

Alan,

Great bird, perch and BG. Love the raised crest and the fact that some of the tail is visible. The birds look so awkward when the tail is completely lost behind vegetation.

Great color too, though the bird looks a tad dark on the head from here.

Paul, I've been so frustrated scanning film and not getting detail in the blacks that now with digital, I'm like a kid in a candy store. I'm hooked.
Thanks for the kind words.
