Image was captured in December of 2002 while shooting in Northern Minn.

Canon D30 / 400 2.8 L + 2X TC / 1/1500 f/11 ISO 200

Nice wing position on both birds, and good habitat. It's hard to show the eyes this well in a JPEG with full-body images of large birds, so the original must be really spectacular.

A terrific action shot, very sharp and clear. I find it difficult to capture this kind of action with a 400, leave alone a 400 + 2x.

Hi Scott,

Love the symmetry with both birds. Is it possible these are Tundra Swans? The lead bird looks to have the yellow spot at the base of the bill. Though hard to tell with the jpg.

BZ....These are definately both Trumpeters, I think what you may be seeing is the start of the catch light in the lead birds eye.
