Hi all. I know this isn't the greatest of images with respect to the background, but its about as good as it gets with these guys, or at least with this one. He was always in some large tree such as this one. This is an immature that was probably recently abandoned by the adults. It was still whining from near what I believe was the nest site (a few hundred feet over in a different tree). I like this shot because it shows off his brilliant rufous color on the wings rather nicely.

Chris, A wonderful and majestic looking hawk indeed!! Is this from Africa? Just did a Search, which revealed South America: from Panama to northern Argentina; particularly Suriname. Where were you, Chris?

Jill: This was taken in the Pantanal in Brazil. Apologies for not listing the location.

What a cool bird. In uneven lighting like this, it is sometimes better to go with flash as the main source of light and underexposing the ambient expose some - this tones down the bright highlights and minimizes the shadows thrown on the bird.
