I absolutely love these little ducks. Last year, during my first trip to Castalia Pond, I was amazed by how tame these cute little guys were. I wish this fella had turned his head toward me a little bit but they are plentiful in winter and I plan on practicing a lot. :) All comments and suggestions for improvement are welcome. Thanks for looking!

A lovely Wigeon, Laura. The color of the water complements that of the duck.

Sandy is right about the water color, and the exposure is perfect too. Only way to make it better would be to get lower (not possible, perhaps) or catch a wing-flap or stretch.

I'm with you Laura. I love these little ducks. They just always seem so happy.

This one looks like he is a couple weeks from peak breeding colors. You caught him in good light and with a nice pose. I agree that a head turn would improve this. Since you can go back and practice, you will be getting incredible shots of him when his plumage peaks.

Wigeons are among the tamest ducks I've encountered. He is a very nice specimen and its an excellent photo.

Hey Laura:

Send a few of those tame ones out to CT. I've been trying to get a Eurasion mixed in with flock of Americans, and they won't let me within 200 feet at best. I'd love to get one as nice as this.

Excellent exposure! I have (had) many of these with burned brows. Never did quite get the hang of it in time before the duck departed. You did well.

8) Very nice colours Laura. They are not so easy to get close to here in southern Canada. Good capture.

Laura,

This is an excellent shot. The exposure couldn't be better. It looks like you had some nice light for this shot.

Lovely, Laura. These are beautiful ducks, aren't they! I have one with a green head patch ( photo). Thought it was an Amer Wigeon - is it just a variation? Now I am curious. Actually, think he has more black where your's is brown. Thanks, Laura!
