Amazing sometimes things you live are found right under your nose. In this case in the backyard one dreary morning in the early spring this year. I know the branches are distracting in some spots but the Blue Jay just has that "pop" that makes it stand out. Not sure if it was the subdued light or the misty atmosphere...all I know is I like it.

A near perfect BJ, George. The head turn and detail are excellent.

The blue bird pops right off of the monochromatic brown background.
Excellent shot, George!!

Good shot. The contrast between the subtle flash on the bird and the moody background is very nice. Yes, I'd prefer that a couple of the branches weren't there, but what says early Spring better than budding branches?

George, For sure this earns a personal favorite!! The BG has an oriental flair and in no way interferes with the superb Blue Jay!!! Love it!!!

This is a perfect example of why you don't have to put your camera away on a gray day. Golden light has its place, but so does cool gray light. And the background is appropriately busy.

Beautiful. The freshness of the branches adds nicely to this image - I can see why it's a favourite.

George,

This is an excellent shot. The colors and the pose look great. The background doesn't detract at all from the image.

Love it Love it Love it!!!

I find Blue Jays to be one of the best backyard photography subjects there is and you've caught this one ideally.
Unlike most birds, I prefer overcast and less foliage for BlueJays. The Overcast I find provides a uniform lighting to bring out the blue without burning the whites. Just a hint of fill is enough for a catchlight and maybe pull a stop to darken a busy background (an E.J. tip).

Did I mention I Love It!

Just terrific. There is so much"pop" that the background is hardly noticeable, except for the color which is perfect.
