I took this image on a dull day. I had hoped for some light to make the water a little nicer but it would have also made the exposure a little more challanging. I haven't seen many of these wing flaps "facing you" so I thought I would post this to see what you all thought.

Thank you for taking the time to look and Happy Thanksgiving!

I like it. The gray water isn't ideal, but the pose is great! I don't mind the clipped wings either.

Karen, dull days are great for white birds. I adore this shot. It is among the most unusual loon images I have seen. Keeping detail on the neck and breast of the bird was important. The clipped wings are perfect. His expression is great - he seems to be saying, "Whoa!"

Karen,

Excellent pose and composition. The light was good enough to get that red eye to stand out. :)

Very nice!!

A very nice pose, composition and exposure.

But remember, not all the loons are on the lake. Many are in the legislature. :P

Karen,

The wing spread is great. You've kept nice detail in the whites. Congrats.

I will be contrarian once again. The gray water makes the image since it is now essentially a black and white photo with just the red eye for color. As usual, an excellent shot Karen.

Awesome, monochromatic with just the eye to grab attention. I love looking at pics of these birds.
