This parent was bringing an insect to the nest when it paused to look me over. I had hoped it would turn and face it's back to me so I could capture the "blue" but it never changed position before flying off. I decided the red breast and the Teasel would be what the shot was about instead ..... (or it decided for me!). :) The position of the bird WRT the Teasel called for the normally undesirable centered crop.

Everything about this image is outstanding. Therefore it rates a 5 on the much coveted Mittleman scale of image excellence.

As usual with your pics, excellence... I don't think having the bird in a different spot would change this much..like it a lot just where it is....

Great shot Ken. I'm assuming this is set-up? removing the right thistle would have allowed you to crop in for the comp that you wanted, but I'm sure you know that. nice BG too. The bugs add a lot.

Alan,

This was not a set up, I was standing in a large hay field. Any attempt to move the tripod would have involved lifting it over the tangled grass and scared off the bird immediatley. An IS lense on a monopod is a good hay field rig.... maybe next year.

Don't touch that picture....it's perfect just the way it is. What few, pitiful Bluebird images I've gotten have been all blue from the back. I rather like the colorful front...and it goes so well with the perch.

Forget rules and regulations when it comes to cropping, If the soup has a good broth and plenty of spices and stock , smells and taste good, who cares about the color or the size of the pot!!!
Excellent content, complemented by a bug, lovely bird atop teasels!!
"Cursed"good soup to me!!!
8) 8) 8) = Equal to their five  !!!

Monique, I am packed and ready to go, I may not look like much but I am well behaved and can grow on you like a fungus, with no cure for it!!!

Ken,
This is superb, absolutely superb! The comp is wonderful, the perch has incredible little patterns anddetail and the bird, of course, well it's a bluebird! Oh yeah, did I mention that this is superb? :D

As good as it gets, Ken. The thistles balance the bird well.
