Here is one of my favorite images, even though it is not one of my best. There are several reasons for this. I took it with an older eastern German medium format 300/4 lens - heavy, manual focus, manual flash and EOS RebelG in April 2000 and it was probably my first keeper image. At that time I was still using film and this was taken on Kodak ProPhoto 100. Since then I have started to photograph birds more seriously. Also this is one of my favorite birds.

Technicals:
EOS RebelG + Meyer Optik 300/4MC + 540 EZ + Manfrotto 055 NAT (you can't handhold this lens, it is heavy and you have to focus manually). Nikon CoolScan IVED, NeatImage filter (first time ever used - great soft), full frame.

Note: Since it was MF lens used on 35 mm camera, only center part of the lens was used. Therefore, optically, it was quite sharp lens.

You are right, it's not your best, but with the equipment you used  This is great stuff! Where did you take this? Back home? Was it captive or wild?

BTW, sent you a reply email earlier. I've had email issues :(

Alright, I'm off for tonight.. I'm not an owl.

Nice subject, I would have cloned the branch in the front.

Cool shot. The owl looks a bit puzzled, perhaps trying t figure out how you mounted that MF lens on a Rebel. I like the way the eye color ties into the background foliage, and the flash fill is well executed. I suppose I would clone out that twig as Juan suggests.

Fero, the payoff for cloning out the branch is well worth it. A great photo.

Thank you for your suggestions. The branch going through his belly never bothered me much, but after the cloning I see the difference. I have posted it together with the original (above). I cloned it on my laptop which is not great for whites and yellows, so may be it doesn't look perfect.

It is a wild bird.

It is a wonderful shot of this bird....and with the equipment used!! You also did a great cloning job....it improves the image greatly. I do love those eyes.
