Laughing Kookaburra - Dacelo novaeguineae

Although the perch is not ideal, and I've lost a little detail in the feathers on the head, this one is a favourite of mine. I was driving out of the park when I spotted this fellow. He allowed me to drive fairly close, and snap off a dozen or so shots, of which I like this one the most. He didn't seem to care that I was there and just went about his business of scanning the area.

Great colors and awesome background. The head tilt really makes this for me.

Very nice. :)

What an incredible looking bird! I lreally like the dark background in this, and that we can see the neat colors and markings on its feathers.

Well I am jealous!!!, In spite of the fact that the detail on the whites are a little washed out in his head, the pose and colors more than make up for the rest, Last weekend a Male Kookaburra out did me patience wise!!, I waited almost 3.5 hours 6 feet from him, he was on a steep perch and a lousy BG to boot, He did not move in all that time, Unknown to me they eat mice, I saw him open his beak and I could understand why, Huge is an understatement, more like a storm drain!!, Incredibly beautiful bird.
Wonderful capture indeed!!! Congrats!! 8)

great pose. A little hot on the neck and not the perfect perch but a very nice photo.

I really like the composition here. The bird looking up into the corner is great. The variety feather colors is neat to see as well. I really like this one.

Love the pose Andrew. The local kookaburras are camera shy, while they come into my yard they rarely pose.

Super cool bird and a beutiful pose and composition. The contrast was just a bit much for the film pushed two stops but still this is outstanding.

I think you have given yourself an honest critique. This is a beautiful bird and I think you did a good job with him. I saw them when I was in Australia.....but only at a distance. Good capture.
