This guy was taken last week during my stay in the Pantanal. He had several favorite perches, of which this was one. The lighting was great as it made the Pixiam river behind him turn this golden green color that you see as the backdrop. It was interesting photographing kingfishers as there were Spectacled Caiman everywhere. One time I was photographing one of these guys and a Caiman was maybe 6 feet from me as I was reasonably close to the rivers edge.

Canon Eos10d + 400mm f/5.6. 1/125th @ f/8.0. Fill at -1 2/3.

What a great shot of this cool bird. I love the mischievous look he's giving. Great background too.

Chris, many years ago I spent three days trying to find a reported Amazon Kingfisher in the Rio-Grande Valley without luck.. This is a spectular bird and you have a great shot. A tough bird to expose. I would have gone with a darker perch. Love the BG.

Wow, is this ever close for having used the 400mm! The photo is excellent IMO.

Chris,

Beautiful metallic green color and pose. Wish the perch were natural.

Agree with Alex on the running hot ... otherwise you couldn't ask for a getter catch. And what an achievement at 400mm.
