I came across this Wilson's snipe a few weeks ago in a CT field.
This is one species that has given me difficulty in the past. Either they are buried in vegetation or they blast off like a rocket when they see me (of course thats always before I see them). Their cryptic coloration makes them extremely hard to see when they are in their element.
I was able to shoot this bird out of my Jeep window and it let me stay with it for over an hour.

Nice one, Paul. I still have never captured a decent shot of a snipe. Maybe a hair over-sharpened.

Paul,

Closer than I have been, I have seen some out in the open on a mud flat but not close enough to do them justice.

Paul, Great shot. I would crop up from the bottom a bit.

Beautiful shot, Paul. The snipe looks so serene!! The closest approach I ever got was from behind the trunk of a palm tree. Of course, that wasn't an option in CT.

Hi Paul. While I really like Alan's suggested crop I wanted to add that I think this is a great view of this species in it's habit. I really like the way you can see the snipe and yet tell that i t would camouflage easily.

Lovely bird and great camouflage, pretty good exposure considering such harsh light, I don't have a single Snipe!!! Congrats!!! 8)

Paul,

Very nice capture. It's most unusual that he would tolerate your presence so long.

Paul:

Good job to get so close. I have a few shots about like this, but unfortunately, they would all need to be savagely cropped to get this kind of image size. Tough birds.
