Sensia 100 (I think--there's an off-chance it was Provia 100F)

Sigma 50-500 at 500. Probably at f/8 with aperature set as-metered by my Pentax MZ-30. I don't think this is cropped, but it might be a bit.

Taken at Reifel Island near Vancouver, on August 4, 2003.

I'd like whatever comments you care to give. I am curious if someone can explain that light band up near the top right corner--is it flare, a processing glitch or what? (or maybe it was actually there, but it doesn't look right to me...)

Lovely bird, maybe EV-1/3 exposure wise, good color and nice detail, The OOF band in the upper left corner appears to be a small twig or blade of grass, very near the front of the lens, That is my hunch !!!, Still very nice!!
Congrats!! 8)

Hey! You stole my title! I agree with Alex about what that noise is. These are tough to get good looking, full body shots, that present well on the web. Big bird :!: Small eye.

Paul,
Cool shot... the light looks a little harsh, but I like it. I might crop a bit from the top and left.

Is this one of the residents at Reifel? Same as Alex on the comments.
Nice one.

Nice image. With some fill flash you may have been able to subdue the harsh light and fill in those shadows. I will echo other peoples comments and suggest you clip the upper left.

It almost looks like something draped over the lens in that corner. Otherwise a nice shot.

Paul, This is a divine setting and image of, I believe, an immature Sandhill. A small crop from the top would take care of the splotch. Really nice one!!

Nice looking Sandhill! I know exactly what the area is on the left hand corner of the frame. Something is between you and your subject, a blade of grass or a branch. When looking through the viewfinder you won't even see it. I know because I have a ton of images that have this affect. You have to be aware before you shoot.

Excellent pose on this guy! Very nice!

Nice position on the bird and nice bg. Agree that a crop from the top would help.

I don't know if it's a resident or not. I don't live in Vancouver--this was only my second visit to Reifel. There were a pair of them hanging out together--the only two I saw this trip.

Too bad about the light streak and the light was tough too. Nicely composed and you got the head turned slightly toward you. Nice image.

Hi Paul---I am enjoying this pic; like the whole bird; would suggest a crop and Curves adjustment to reduce the harshness a bit but the others have covered that. :)
